Your videos are absolutely entrancing, they are so chalk full of so much amazing information and they have such a pleasant and straightforward cadence. I feel completely transported to these magical gardens! I've always been interested in gardening, but I find myself nurturing my inner gardener more and more as I get older. In Northern California it feels like I really have to travel far to find local examples of amazing gardens, some places in the South and East of the US have great garden traditions, but most of my neighbors have relatively lackluster gardens, which is good news in some ways, lots of room for improvement!

I have decided Queen Anne's Lace and our local purple milkweed is so beautiful that it belongs at the back of my beds. After the larkspur goes to seed, the purple of the milkweed is a perfect replacement. My most successful self-seeder has been pinks. (Dianthus)

I'm glad you mentioned about the aquilegia as I have a tiny little clump which comes up every year but has never spread. I haven't actively taken seeds from it so maybe I need to do that and see if I can get it to grow and flower elsewhere.

I once invested a very small amount of money in something akin to the bark shreds used to make paths in your video. What I got was sold as mulch, the coarsest grade of “Pine bark nuggets.” It was chunks and sticks, rather than shreds, and that made it easier to rake up before moving it. I used it again and again, for paths, for a patio, and as mulch. It looked to be nearly eternal, and I loved its look.

I am a bit dubious when veg and flowers mix too much - the garden looks glorious but when the contents are analysed, there are few edible vegetables in a huge area. Old vege gardeners would turn in their graves

Very helpful video, thank you! Hope i can help you in turn... But in order to search Google more accurately, you need only use the correct symbols. For example, if you search for "weeding" (including the "__" symbols) it will only return results which exactly include the term weeding. If you type "weeding" -wedding, it will also remove all results including the word wedding. This is known as boolean search logic, if you wanted to search it to find out more about this. Hope this helps someone!

Terrific summary! People have asked me, "Why are you saving all those old sticks?" My friend and I always call it 'playing in the garden', when you combine actual chores like deadheading, repotting, or pruning with letting your creativity flow. Moving things around (I have mostly containers in my back garden), adding natural elements, building trellises from sticks, training vines, all of these wonderful things. The more time I spend outside, the more the ideas come to me. Repurposing is a great way to save money!

My biggest problem is the enormous relocation of all these self-seeding. I moved over 100 blanket flowers, 50 zinnias, cosmos, catmint, giant red mustard, chard, alliums (white). The there's the invasive takeovers - 4 O'Clocks, Moon Flowers, Spider Plants - I throw away hundreds each year, Really really liked your garden and its variety

My single question I always have is WAS HE using drugs? I am truly wondering what this explosion of men between 20 - 50 who develop "mental illness". It is always the same - bipolar schizophrenia. And the family is overwhelmed AND hamstrung by privacy laws and a deficiency of medical - not the ever shifting sands of psycho babble-treatment necessary. I wonder if this is bi-product of kids being given drugs to control behavior having a societal afterburn effect? If it is related to our food industry? We are the lone country that has not banned a number of ingredients or products used in food development or packaging. Or could it be related to illegal drug experimentation or a reaching a particular amount of use? So many of these drugs kill brain cells. And they DON"T recreate. Once the synapsis are broken there may be some sort of rerouting or compensation but is that overstressing a different part of the brain? I just have a really difficult time coming to terms why a 40+ man would go out purposefully and hunt children? Because that is what he did. We have sexual predators who rape and if not caught timely routinely advance to killing their prey. And our courts treat many of THEM as mentally ill. HOGWASH. We really need to be honest and set some clear boundaries, methods, and laws to aid people who know a family member has turned the corner and is no longer rational AKA of sound mind. And we need to stop rationalizing drugs and admit they cause harm. I know this may sound off the edge but I believe this man's body needs to go somewhere where his brain can be studied. All murderers and rapists I believe need to have their brains studied. Maybe like all advancements, if we get enough data we can gain new insight and gain some options for preventing or nipping such behavior before innocent people/families/communities are harmed?

Nicely considered. Perhaps an Acer palmatum would be happy there in a half oak barrel (thus avoiding honey fungus spores), It could be a feature for that area and they don't like to dry out. What was decided upon??

Hi. I'm having terrible luck with marginal plants still in their soil. Critters come on the night, dump the pots over, and leave a muddy devistated barrel pond (catastrophic for the few fish I have). Short of covering the patio pond each night, I'd like to know if you can grow marginal plants without their soil...bare roots.
